Gokudera thinks about souls and spirits, but mostly about souls. He attended mass back in Italy, back in the years when Shamal was a mountain he aspired to be and when he thought he knew his family. Gokudera doesn't admit it, but he thinks that maybe his soul was tied to his mother's in some way, and the thread broke and it flew off into the sky beyond his reach on the day of the car crash, together with her warmth and smiles and music.

Gokudera is empty and angry, but he refuses to be filled.

This is the only thing I have he thinks as he stubs out a cigarette and tinkers with bombs made from Shamal's leftovers, as he looks in the mirror and sees silver hair from a dead angel reflected back at him, as he watches Yamamoto swing a home run and be carried off the field on the shoulders of his exuberant team mates.
