It was only when I was browsing through fandomsecrets and I came across this secret when I realized just how important fandom has become to people. I know I know, there are at least a thousand other secrets on how fandom has helped this person or other overcome suicide attempts and made life brighter in general, but that was the only secret which hit the switch for some reason. It reminded me a lot of this dialogue from the Hogfather television adaptation:


Death: Humans need fantasy to *be* human. To be the place where the falling angel meets the rising ape.
Susan: With tooth fairies? Hogfathers?
Death: Yes. As practice, you have to start out learning to believe the little lies.
Susan: So we can believe the big ones?
Death: Yes. Justice, mercy, duty. That sort of thing.
Susan: They're not the same at all.
Death: You think so? Then take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder, and sieve it through the finest sieve, and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. That last line of Death's says it all, really. When life becomes too much, when the big pile of shit that's been hanging over your head begins to topple, when your fingers finally slip from the edge that you've been desperately hanging on to for so long, you need a place to run away to for a while, even if it isn't real, even if it only exists inside your head. How else do you go on? It's like being too sober all the time. We all need that veil, that slight haze of not!life and not!reality to make things just that bit more bearable.

Speaking of the TV adaptation, I had no idea that there was an actor inside Death's costume. I honestly thought it was a giant puppet. XD; They hired this Dutch guy to play him, and there's a button inside which he hits with his chin everytime he opens his mouth and Death's dialogue comes from speakers somewhere AND IT'S ALL SO COOL-- *_* Although I thought Death's voice should be more booming and menacing.

And while we're on the subject of fandom secrets, this secret made me go AWWWWW while this one made me want to laugh and cry at the same time because it could have been me when I first started poly nine years ago. Wait, it's been NINE YEARS?! I'M OLD. T_T

Oh, and all of you should go watch Cloudy with a chance of meatballs if you get the chance. The main character's A-DORK-ABLE! ♥ He does his own narration and sound effects! His pet monkey is voiced by Neil Patrick Harris! And there's an over-zealous policeman IN SHORTS! :DD

I learned a new vulgarity on Friday. It was from an interviewer who used it on me, strangely enough. I admit it was partially my fault to begin with but you're allowed to swear at the interviewees now? Wow.

Reading this week's issue of 8 Days ("The Annoying List"), I realized that I agreed with all 43 items listed. This made me feel very annoyed, and for no reason I was going to compile my own list of pet peeves when I thought, "Aiyah, no one needs to know how annoyed you are lah. Besides it will rampage into personal territory and history and YOU THINK PEOPLE REALLY WANT TO KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT YOU MEH. You think you L*K*Y the Queen ah?" so I didn't.

Instead I went to dig up videos of cute fluffy animals so that we can all go AWWWW together instead.




I can practically hear the poor bunny's thoughts within the first minute of the video: "YOU. SNIFFING. MY BUTT. WHY." XD

On a completely random note, why I got so many funny funny useless bookmarks in my library ah? No wonder scroll that time like never-ending one... /grumbles

So, about Bruno...

That was the first time in my life I stepped out of a cinema with such an empty feeling. ._. The advanced warnings were accurate, both for the cringe-worthiness of the film and the appearance of a certain part of the male anatomy (which also happened to be the literal representation of this site.)

In short, I am now traumatized and may never quite recover again. ._.

UP turned out to be a surprisingly sad movie. T.T The pacing of the entire show was something like "LAUGH! AWWW! CRY! LAUGH! GASP! CRY! LAUGH! AWWW! CRY!" It was a good movie, but I am weak and I don't think my feelings are up to such a roller coaster of a ride again.

Tomorrow I go to watch Bruno. I have also been warned to prepare myself for the appearance of a certain part of the human anatomy. How does one go about doing so is beyond me, but I appreciate the advance warning nonetheless.

44 years since the separation from Malaysia, 50 from the British. Still on speaking terms though! :D

In other news, G.I. Joe's a fun movie! People stealing things, things getting blown up, warheads and vehicles flying through the air, the Eiffel Tower being eaten by millions of nanomachines ("Les salauds!" cried France in horror, hands flying to cover his rose. "Your tourists I can put up with, but this, America, THIS is going too far!"), etc etc. The vehicles used in the movie were so cute! They looked like polished-up and shiny versions of those toy cars you could control them with a remote control!

Now, who's watching NDP and following that, Singapore Idol? :D

In other news, looking over the Japanese text for the 七色のヘタリア動画を酒の勢いで歌ってみた or Hetalia Douga video has uncovered the fact that the term 萌えました actually does exist. o_O

How to work it into everyday conversation is another thing altogether though: "The brutal way in which the rugby players bonded moe'ed me so badly!" XD;

Things I learned after the war exams:
- SLEEP BABY COME TO MAMA.

- I am a little frightened of the sheer amount of dust that has accumulated in my room. /cringes

- It's awfully difficult to clean dust off books.

- Speaking of books, there's a whole of lot of them I haven't read and another whole lot I have to give away. And I haven't even touched my manga stash yet.

- I CAN SEE EMPTY SPACE ON MY BOOKSHELVES NOW. WHAT MIRACLE IS THIS.

- Three years of school = three huge boxes and plastic bags of nothing but notes. What am I going to do with them I have no idea.

- My Internet connection hates me.

- As does the weather recently. (THE SUN! IT BURNS!)

- There has been a distinct lack of good movies to watch lately. Any recommendations?

- Pigeons have taken to roosting under my window. And sometimes ON the window itself.

- I may be becoming addicted to Persona 4. (I keep expecting a window to pop up and announce that 'Nanako-chan can now take a mortal blow for you in battle!' XDD)

- Finally, this song has been running through my head for the past few weeks:

So my mother seems to have gotten it into her head that the entire island's power is going to be cut off for an hour this Saturday. =_=

Dear locals on my f-list in the Land of Spore, I really don't think we have to worry about a forced power blackout this weekend as it appears to be entirely voluntarily.

But you can still do your part by switching off your lights from 8.30PM to 9.30PM this Saturday. Me, I'll be trying to convince my mother that we only have to do it if we want to. (She is paranoid to the point that she has bought a portable camping lamp and displayed it very prominently in the living room. OTL)
